The Singularity Theory

Excerpts from Dr Nathaniel's Journals

19 September 3001

How much would you let your ego to blind the scientist in you. How much hubris would lead to your downfall. On this day, captain Marcus, on the behalf of ESRA had asked me to accompany him, to try to save my friend and colleague, Tim. Tim was a brilliant scientist, who eventually fell victim to his own blinded pursuit of the holy grail - The Singularity. I don't blame him for his downfall, I would have wounded down the same path, if my resolve was as strong as his, but today, I stand at the other side of the mirror, bidding farewell to my friend, as he takes the plunge. My heart pains, I failed, to save his soul. I could not save him.
He along with the crew of Rocinante, lay resting in their icy graves, and I bid farewell to them.

Excerpts from Rocinante's Radio Logs.

'Its a flawed theory', the words still had a ring to it. I was not a person to be bogged down by criticism, especially when I am hell bent on proving my self right. Nate seemed to be supportive of my theory, but a human he is too. He backed out from the expedition. Now its me, and my trustee Rocinante, my space shuttle, the first space ship to transcend the space and time barrier.  We rattled through the blackness of the space, with only one thought in our heads, we have to reach Xerma.

It all started with a thought experiment, which Nate was of full support, but latter had the audacity to back out from.

I dare you Dr. Nathaniel, grow a backbone, stand up against the establishment, as I did. Did you forget the success we had at Sercious? Did you forget, how we managed to prove that we could indeed teleport? But, no, you had to backstab me, leave me alone, and here I am in my pursuit of knowledge. I will prove to the world that it indeed is possible for a human to teleport, and for this I travel to Xerma. You did say that black holes are not the best vessels for teleportation, and that they just push you back in time. But how do you explain our success at Sercious, we found the rover which we shot into the Black hole at Sercious, 10 Million light years away, and that too instantaneously. I say, Dr. Nathaniel, you have your theories all muddled up, its not me, who is full of hubris, but you.
I still stand by my truth. Black Holes can be used as portals, and these portals were set up here by God for us humans to be the masters of the universe, to explore and to reach the far off ends of this unexplored expanse of darkness. Today as the world witnesses me, I will take the plunge of faith.

Witness me.

Excerpts from ESRA-Reckon Ship Radio Logs

18 September 3001

12:00:10: 'We have sighting of Rocinante, crew be advised of the approaching Black Hole gravity'

12:01:30: 'Rocinante is headed for the Event Horizon, awaiting orders to pursue.'

12:01:50: 'Crew be advised, stay course, and observe. Do not engage'

12:03:20: 'Rocinante is accelerating into the black hole. Visuals lost, relying on radio signature.

12:03:40: 'Radio signature Lost. Rocinante is Lost.'

12:03:50: 'Rocinante is officially lost into the Black Hole at Xerma'

12:04:10: 'Rocinante radio signature detected in Sector 40, Rocinante is back on the radar, Set course to sector 40'.

12:05:00: 'Nate here, its futile to pursue Rocinante, they are 40 million light years away. Nate Out'

12:05:30: 'Survivors are the priority, set course to sector 40'

12:06:00: 'Captain, you do not understand, Rocinante existed 40 million years ago, We just lost Rocinante to the Big Bang . Nate Out'

The Traveler-7: The Singularity

The Singularity is the past and the future of the universe...

The leather clad journal thus spake,

His frame shrivelled, form intact, spirit broken,
A man not from our time, floated free.

Clad in white, the first contact ours,
'Earth speaking, speak to us',
'I am lost in space, help me home'.

A gentle tug, a forceful push,
His frame broke free,
Floating like a feather, he fell,
Into the earths cradle he fell,
'Home I believe', he sighed a relief.

He spoke, a feeble cry, words heavy with solitude.

'I have been lost, I believe',
He settled a bit, comfort I think he sought.

I could see pain in his enlightened spirit,
As he searched for his world, eyes racing,
Then his gaze dropped, despair I believe.

'This is not my home', at length he spoke,
'A fool I am to believe otherwise',
'I have transcended space and time', he sighed,
'Travelled through worlds, hoping it to be mine',
'But, alas, time beat me to it yet again', he smiled.

The Traveler-6: The Black Plague

"Will you cleanse the world for me", the Devil drawled...

I remember the night of the rain,  the shards of nature's fury,
Hitting across my face, as I rode.

I remember the night of the trade, an enticing piece of apatite,
The night I traded all pains for my soul.

The devil dressed in a purple haze, a dream I wished weren't true.

The words echoed, his voice glared, the darkness shrank to a corner,
A diabolic deal did I make, the devil smirked.

In exchange for my soul, I took a bite out of the forbidden knowledge,
I disappeared, as light engulfed me.

The devil dresses in a purple haze, a dream I wished weren't true.

I find my self seated, centre of attention, the spotlight of the day,
The future I present, the devil storied.

The future was bleak, wars, I recall, misery I try to forget,
The future is bleak, but a deal is a deal.

The devil dressed in a purple haze, a dream I wished were true.

One particular instance I do recall, misery he did foretell,
Death I do promise, he said.

A man I was introduced to, a traveller the devil, I recall,
A traveller from the silk route.

The devil dresses in a purple haze, silken dreams, I try to forget.

I talk to the man, devil incarnated, an apatite for destruction,
I was immortal, he would sneer.

Did you make a deal too, I would ask, a grin for a reply,
I hated him, for the knowledge foretold everything.

The devil dresses in sheep skin, a purple haze I try to forget.

I brought the sickness in my ships of immorality, ships of false promise,
I was a merchant of death, I hated his soul.

I brought death to the world, I cleansed the un-clean,
Do I hate him still, may be, I sighed.

The devil rides the chariot, the chariot of a purple haze.

I cleansed the world of wickedness,  or so I was told,  he chimed,
I cleaned the sin out of the world.

My immortality I traded for a better world, but at what expense,
A million souls lost to the darkness.

The devil reigns over your dreams, a purple haze.

I cleansed sins, the traveller sang, I cleansed the world.
I ridded the world of immorality.

I had a liking to him, wars were of a past while the plague lasted,
People turned to God, the world was better.

The wolf among sheep, a purple dream of haze.

Will you cleanse the world for me, the Devil drawled,
It has turned to wicked ways, he sang.

I was inclined to say a no, but what is immortality without power,
You are doing God's work, I was bribed.

The devil dressed in a purple haze, a nightmare I wished weren't true.

I remember my choice, as I became, one of the travellers,
A traveller in the Devil's catalogue.

I remember my choice, as I flew in a metal bird,
The deliverer of God's wrath, on a folk of innocent horde.

The devil tricked me, tricked me in my purple dream.

I remember my immortal pride taking a plunge from the skies,
As the cleansing of an era took toll,

Millions died, futures saw a distorted dream, I am guilty,
I am guilty, I sang, as the devil sew me to his soul.

The sheep in wolfs cloth, a dream of a purple haze.

Traveler-Epilogue, The mad King

The night had been long,
My share of mares, with the stories untold,
With dreams forgotten, a heavy heart,
And through 'em, sinister plans, I play my part.

My brothers disappear, in pools of blood,
My brothers disappear, I wish help'em I could.

Forests of despair, intervened with our quest,
Riches promised, women to satisfy our lust,
Lands to conquer, for the king in me to rest.

A long trail of deceit, as I travel,
An immortal, I have lived a story untold,
Today I stand, alone and lost in time,
Traveler, they call me, traveler with a rhyme.

To devil, sell my soul I did, to live for eons.
To devil, sell my soul I did, despaired, I live on.

The moon, my desire,  a price far promised,
Wine to quench my thirst, golds for the love I missed,
Souls to win, for the king in me to despotize.

This is the last journey, they say,
I desist to move, for I have stories untold,
The winding path through the country side,
And the men, whom I killed for my own hearts' pride.

Ghosts aren't real, they just vanish with the wind,
Ghosts aren't real, sleep eludes, for I have sinned.

O' night, why are you bathed in blood,
Ridden with guilt, my heart, a withered rose bud,
Sleep I yearn, and my eyes, they have bled.

I am a king, the king of an immortal time,
But insanity, my king, has stories untold,
I have reigned with vengeance, for my soul that I lost,
The witch of time, chuckles, "but at what cost".

Past is slowly pulling me in, vanish it whispers.
Past is slowly fading away, sins, my seven sisters.

So I drink, I dance and I feast with the dead,
With so much, over the crackling fires done and said,
But no pleasure satisfies me, and no one for a tear to shed.

For I,  am the traveler.

The Traveler-5: The Time Trap.

Acknowledgement: I would like to thank my dearest Friend Nikhil Negi for the Time travel, and My dear sis D, for the Witch :D

The village held a gloomy charm,
Not a one that would sooth the heart,
And I wanted to know, to understand,
What made the clouds look so sad.

My answer came,
From a man in the village bar,
He told me the sorrow filled tale,
As he drank from his jar.

He said, with every sip,

She rides on her wind charriot, with a fire whip in her hand,
She rides to steal the smiles, steal the joy from our hearts.

She has cursed this land, so the sun never shines,
The clouds would linger along, but not a drop wets the ground.

She has cursed this land, so no child is ever born,
The mothers lost their hopes to live.

"Why does she torment all", I asked,
"I don't know, why don't you ask", he said.
So I set out to find her,
For, the sight had filled me with sorrow.

So I set out to find my answers,
To the old witch who lived by the river,
And around me I saw pain,
The village was dead on itself.

She sat on a velvet thron,

"Why do you torment the villagers?", My question startled her,
"Its my village, I do as it pleases me", she replied with scorn.

"I will do anything to help this village out", I swore an oath,
"Can you?" She replied as flew down to me with a cackle.

"Why would you, you are just a traveler, why soil your hands?"
"I love adventure, and helping these people promises me adventure."

She waved her wand, poof!!!!
Darkness covered me for an instance,
And then light, as we emerged again.
Emerged into a dungeon.

"I would like to test your spirit", she said
As she led me through the narrow lane,
Tombs of men lined the wall,
And floor was wet with slime.

She opened a giant door,

"Can you kill a stranger, without looking at his face?",
"Can you stab a man, without knowing his name"
.

I saw whom she was talking about, for he sat there,
His face covered and his hands chained, he sat there by the wall.

"One man's life for an entire village", I weighed in my head,
Then taking the dagger from her, I drove it down his heart.

"You clear my test, Traveler,
But you must travel to the past,
Down the alley of fear,
To the Forest of Gloom".

"I will send you twenty years back,
Search for me the three stones of life,
And once you find them, come back
To this village, to this house"
.

She raised her wand, mumbling a spell,

"But I lay a curse upon you, as you travel down the time,
If you shall ever raise a hand against me, you shall fall by the same"

A ball of fire engulfed my body, but it didn't burn my skin,
And slowly the witch faded from my sight, only the fire remained.

A pull of gravity, a pull of soul, I couldn't tell,
But I felt the time fly by me, and soon the fire died around.

The world was different,
The sky and sun felt different,
And I traveled in search of the stone of life,
I traveled to the darkest time.

In ten years I found two,
But then one day I learned the truth,
The witch had the third of the stone,
And she had just pushed me out.

I was lost, and shattered, captured in the past.

"Where can I find the village of gloom?", I would ask everyone,
"Where can I find the witch who masters time?", I lost it to time

Ten more years I wander around, with the two stones of life,
And one day I track her down, I found my way back to her.

"You deceived me oh evil witch", And I raised my sword to kill,
"You are just a mere mortal", she laughed, and captured me in a spell.

She took from me the two stones of life,
And locked me away in a place unknown,
And for three days I was kept there,
With no food for hunger, and no water for thirst.

And on the third day, I heard movements,
And the door opened behind me, footsteps I heard,
Faces I couldn't see, but knew they were two.
And then after a long pause, I heard her speak.

"Can you kill a stranger, without looking at his face?"

The Traveler-4: The Riders of the Dark Sand

I have traveled long and far, in search of things that the world has seldom heard of. The journeys I have taken in search of Fear, The Forest Nymphs, and the Devil himself have already been written about. My journeys have taken me to the ends of the world, from where there seemed no return. One such journey took me to the land, covered under a sea of sand. It was everywhere, it spanned from horizon to horizon, and it was here I heard about the Riders Of the Dark Sand.

I was part of the caravan, and we were to cross this great desert to reach the other side, to the green lush fertile land along the River Nile. The caravan was actually a transport for a precious jewel, guarded by an old priest. There were stories about him, and how he had always guarded the jewel from the desert robbers.

I walked over to him, eager to know what was so precious about the jewel, but before I could ask him, he started the tale.

Long ago, during the reign of Thoth,
The heaven was torn apart in war,
Horus in arms against Set, the God of sands.

Thoth conceived a jewel, of pure power,
Power to alter time, and resolve fights,
And handed the jewel to a man, priest in his temple.

But the greed in man's heart was strong,
And he yearned to be powerful,
He fought for this jewel, to control the time.

One such man was Hareb, a mighty warrior,
Who up with his four men, laid siege on the temple,
Killing the priests, and stealing the Jewel.

His insolence angered Thoth,
And this anger gave birth to a curse,
A curse to be captured within time.

And together with him, his men perished,
Only to be risen on the day of no moon,
When they fight to regain the Jewel.

Well it was an astounding story, and the old priest could see the glow on my face as I heard about the power of the Jewel.

"Stranger, be warned, no one has ever returned back from the desert nor has the jewel reached the temple by the Nile. Those who die in battle with the Riders, . . . ", his speech was cut off by the bull horn. The journey was about to commence.

I was a bit afraid, but still was determined to see the marvel that lay up ahead in the day.
We were fifty brave men, strong warriors to protect the Jewel, and I was confident that I would be able to set foot on the fertile land across this great desert.

So the journey began. . .

Fifty brave men, mounted on horses,
With swords drawn ready to fight,
Across the desert, they ride,
They ride along with the sun.

The hot days, take their tolls,
But the brave never give up,
For across the desert, lies their dream,
A dream of fertility and pride.

The priest travels along, guarding the jewel,
With fear in his heart he rides,
And as the sun dips towards the horizon,
His eyes betray his fear.

"I have traveled this sand, thousand times,
But never do I see the green land."

Sang the priest, as the skies darkened,
And darkness covered the land.

"They will come, and take all of you,
They will come, to enslave your souls,
But for me, I have the jewel, so I shall live,
The jewel shall set my times right."

And soon the sands turned dark,
And no moon shined in the sky,
Then we heard the sounds of hoofs,
As the Riders of the Dark Sands arrived.

Four men, and their horses breathing fire,
With swords drawn, ready to take the lives.
"If its four, we can take them", I thought,
But my hopes soon turned to despair.

With his hands the rider waved to air,
"I am Hareb, listen to me oh great sands,
I have been yours for many years,
Now give me what is mine"

Soon the earth shook and split
And our sights were blinded by the winds,
And then rose the many who had died,
Died protecting the Jewel of Thoth.

The undead, rose to their feet,
As my men charged ahead into them,
And I watched each of my men fall,
Fall to the swords of the undead.

It was me now, who stood afoot,
Between Hareb and his jewel, his desire,
And with a drawn sword I charged into the men,
Slicing the already dead to death.

"Its futile, that you may fight,
For your men are dead, and you stand alone,
Its futile, that you may fight,
For I still can summon the demons from hell"

And with a scream, Hareb leaped forward,
Knocking me off onto to the sands,
And as his cold sword pierced my chest,
I saw the priest stab the jewel with his staff.

I saw the life flash in front of me,
And the light shone bright, blinding me,
And then darkness followed for days to come,
Until I heard the call, and life ran through my veins.

I rose up again, with the sword in my hand,
And my men stood next to me, ready to fight,
But the fate had a different plan,
For now I was also the Rider of the Dark Sand.

The Traveller - 3

One hundred stars and a million sands,
Underneath my foot did I trample.
In search of the perfect fear, I travelled,
Lands and sea, Hills and mountains.

Brave cried, but I never did,
Men Died, but I never blinked.

In the lust of fear, did I travel, night and day,
In the search of fear, ages I wandered.
Dungeons and pillars never frightened me,
Nor did the fight with the bravest of men.

But curse the day, I met this man,
Oh, was he the devil incarnated?

"Why do you seek fear?", He asked me,
"I have never known one", I replied.
"How can you seek the unknown?", he questioned me,
I pondered, never to find a reason, why.

He stretched his hand and touched my heart,
And made me drink of his wine.

"I will tell you a story, to ease your mind
For, in turmoil you are, and are like a child".

His wine did sooth my mind, and his touch did calm.
But a feeling of repose and despair rose in my heart.

He started the tale, seated by the fire,
I listened, as the owls hooted and night came by.

Was it the story, or the wine I had,
For in the fire I saw my past.
The fire crackled, and ashes did fly,
As in the fire I saw my burning life.

I was a child, as I lay in the cradle,
Crying I lay in the cradle.

Was it a wolf that lay by me, Or was I dreaming,
For there lay a wolf besides the cradle,
Eyes of fire, burning bright, did it look back at me,
Please someone save the child, for a wolf lay besides me.

I had grown up, A boy I was.
And hills became my mates as I played along.

Was it a snake that I saw, or rush of waters,
As it crawled besides the boy, lost in his own world.
It did coil around, like water drowning the boy,
Oh please save the boy, for he is scared of water.

The boy was no more, A man stood instead.
In search of fear did he wander along, lands and sea.

In The fire did I see my self seated, next to the man I had seen,
As he stretched his hand, and touched my heart.
A feeling of despair ran through me, as he released the touch.
Oh for The Devil himself was He.

Hours later, I came out of the stupor.
But nothing remained, Just emptiness and fear.

The Traveller-2

Tlot, tlot, the horse shoe hit the sun baked clay
On a winding path over creeks and brooks.
Tlot, tlot, did it echo into the fragile dying day,
As the sun slipped down, and up went the moon

Night did descend, and tired were we,
For an evening-primrose bed, did we find,
Snuggled between the flowing crystal stream,
A land lit by the moon and the silver night.

The camp was set and the food was served,
As beasts, drank off the sparkling creek,
Wine was served and songs were purred,
By shores of the river, restless and bleak.

At length, A shimmering flame, crossed our way,
A man dressed in white, fragile, aged and wise,
"I am a traveler", said he, "would ye let me stay,
For, the night is long and chill will rise"
.

We let him stay, and by the fire he settled,
"There's a better land, upstream beyond the mound",
said he, as he feasted on wine and rested by the fire.
Where wild lily blossoms And the brooks make no sound".

"So would you mind following me, oh men of time,
For its a beauty that lays, untouched by men"
,
So we saddled our horses and followed the wise,
To the land, upstream beyond the mound.

"When the hour strikes late, cherubs do sing", he continued,
"With flutes and harps, and a song that sooth the being,
The music does capture, the music does attract,
For those who have listened, were never to be seen"
.

"I was caught once, in this heart numbing song", said he.
"And I did cross the land upstream beyond the mound.
To dance to the music and sing with the cherubs,
I did cross the land upstream beyond the mound".

"Weren't you captured?" asked one of my mates,
As we got absorbed in the stupor and dream.
"If you were captured how do you sit with us",
Asked one of my mates, slumped in stupor and fear.

Wind did howl, and the trees did bow,
And moon light played with our minds,
The waters moved, and the camp fire crackled,
As the traveller cleared his throat to rhyme.

"I made a deal with the cherubs said he,
So they let me live, for I bring them life",

And slowly his voice started to fade, fade into the night
As The slow laughter of flutes and harps, filled us inside.

The Traveler

One fine day, on a journey afar,
Tired all the way, took a trip to the bar.
My table was set with the best of the wine,
With the money I could get, all of it mine

There at the bar sat a man in his prime,
Whom I was told, tells stories of his time.
So I took up my wine and went to his lyre,
To sit by his side and listen to his rhymes.

I was a traveller a brave one at heart,
He went on to tell his past.

Nor could the night nor the robbers of the dark,
Could scare my spirit to travel afar.
Until the day, when I came face to face,
With the devil himself in a cold chilling grace.

I ran for my life afraid to my core,
But the devil was there, he was never gone.
The darkness covered me, my soul felt so cold,
I could feel the death, as it was taking hold.

Memories of my life flashed through my eyes,
Nothing but just fear engulfed me inside.

"I am here to make a deal" said the devil with a smile.
"In Exchange for your soul I'll give you infinite life".

The waiter came with the bottle of wine,
As the drunk traveller blabbered all the time.

I chose life, he went on to say.
Then I felt nothing more, no sorrow nor pain.
I was captured in his story, I emptied all the wine,
Until in the morning, The barman woke me from the night.

"Where is the man, who was sitting by my side".
"There was no one sir"
the bartender replied.
